AstraZeneca Grant
Cornerstone received a $150,000 grant from AstraZeneca's HealthCare Foundation program, Connections for Cardiovascular Health, for the second consecutive year. This grant will support our Cardio Outreach program geared towards underserved, low-income residents of Tarrant County . Cardio Outreach is designed to include patients from our partner organizations, which will increase capacity and provide sustainable, comprehensive cardiac care to the poor and uninsured.

Bank of America Award
Cornerstone received one of two North Texas Neighborhood Excellence Awards from Bank of America for 2010. (Click here to watch the video about two of our NLC residents.) This two-year grant provides funding as well as leadership training for Cornerstone.

CARE (Cornerstone Assistance Reentry Employment)

Building New Beginnings Through Employment

Although we acknowledge that employment is not the primary key to success for a person releasing from prison, it is most definitely a critical factor.  Cornerstone Assistance Reentry Employment (CARE) program is uniquely positioned to assist the previously incarcerated seek and find employment.  CARE clients will have a dedicated support team which includes a reentry case manager, a job developer and a mentor or job coach (if desired).  CARE clients will have an opportunity to gain additional education and training to assist with job placement and retention.

The CARE team will work with clients to help identify their strengths and gain access to employers willing to hire in their desired fields.  CARE serves men and women releasing from Dawson State Jail and SAFP facilities returning to Tarrant County.

Rehabilitating offenders and helping them succeed in the labor market  has potentially a huge reach in dealing with poverty and social problems

  • Due to high incarceration rates, the returning offender population represents a substantial percentage of the potential labor market
  • The single most important thing a returning offender can do for long term success is get and keep one job for a significant period of time (possibly one year)

Coming to a neighborhood near you!

  • 95% of all inmates incarcerated in the state of Texas will be releasing and returning to communities throughout the State
  • Two in five prison and jail inmates lack a high school diploma or its equivalent
  • Employment rates and earnings histories of people in prisons and jails are often low before incarceration.  Incarceration only exacerbates these challenges
  • A large, three-state recidivism study found that less than half of released prisoners had secured a job upon their return to the community

Be a Part of the Solution:

  • Mentor a CARE client pre-release at Dawson State Jail and for up to 12 months after release
  • Serve as a Job Coach walking alongside a CARE client for 12 months after release.
  • Extensive training and support provided

If you are interested in serving as a Mentor or Job Coach contact the New Creations Women's Reentry Mentor Coordinator or the Free Indeed Men's Reentry Mentor Coordinator.
